Kiribun Residents Embrace Habema Marines’ Social Communication with Joy

YAHUKIMO - The Infantry Battalion 6 Marines, operating under the Indonesian Armed Forces Operational Command HABEMA, continues to foster positive relations with local communities while ensuring security at the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea border, specifically in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province. On Saturday, 25 January 2025, the Marines Task Forces from the Logpon Post, led by First Lieutenant Nico, conducted Social Communication (Komsos) with Kiribun Village residents in Dekai District during a routine security patrol.

This initiative aims to build trust and strengthen cooperation between the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the local community, aligning with the government’s program to accelerate Papua's development.

Lieutenant Colonel Rismanto Manurung, Commander of the Marines Task Forces, emphasized the importance of addressing the community’s basic needs. Taking this guidance to heart, the Marines used their patrol to engage meaningfully with Kiribun residents.

While securing the area, the Marines also listened to residents' updates regarding the security situation in the village, which they reported as safe and conducive. The community’s warmth and gratitude were evident, as residents expressed their appreciation for the Marines’ presence. Anton Tabuni, a local resident, shared, "Thank you, Commander Marines. God bless." His words highlighted the strong bond and trust between the Marines and the community.

The genuine joy of the Kiribun residents reflects the far-reaching impact of these social communication efforts, where even small gestures strengthen ties and foster mutual respect. Such interactions help the Task Forces better understand local challenges, further enhancing their effectiveness in the field.

Major General Lucky Avianto, HABEMA Commanding General, commended the Marines Task Forces for their commitment to inclusive engagement with Papua’s communities. “The Marines Task Forces’ initiative exemplifies the TNI’s dedication to fostering inclusive social communication to support Papua's development, ” he stated. This acknowledgment underscores the critical role of grassroots connections in achieving the broader goals of security and development in Papua.

Through consistent and compassionate efforts, the Marines Task Forces continue to build bridges of trust and hope, contributing significantly to the vision of a peaceful and prosperous Papua.
